What is "Is it my cup of Tea?"
I'm an avid movie lover! And always enjoyed discussing films with various people and listening to points of view. For a few years I use to load up my opinion of the movies I saw on my Facebook page and discuss it with anyone who might be interested. Until one day I stopped doing it, realizing that I should redirect this energy towards my community, and the arts in general.
As a member of the Gold Coast Theatre Alliance there are 32 companies, associated with it, who pour their hearts and souls into productions and shows that can take up to 10 or more so weeks to put together, and sometimes on shoe string budgets!
Its here that this thriving community deserves good audiences, just as much as the local cinema does, and I wanted to find a way that I could influence people to come and support more local theatre.
So I came up with: IS IT MY CUP OF TEA?
IS IT MY CUP OF TEA is based on the idioms “It’s my cup of Tea” & “Not my cup of Tea" to describe something you like & don’t like. Everybody has differing opinions, likes and dislikes, but if there is one thing everyone can agree upon is that people just want to be entertained whether it’s comedy, musical, horror, thriller or drama.
Now I'm no theatre critic with diplomas, distinctions and years of professional experience & writing- and nor will i pretend to be one. I'm happy to leave that to the professionals who want to go into more "artistic" depth for those out there, who are into that sort of thing.
What I'm about is appealing to the "average joe" who is looking for a good nights entertainment, regardless if i liked it or not. Because at the end of the day the subject matter may "not be my cup of tea", but that doesn't mean others out there won't enjoy it, and that i wasn't entertained!
And that's exactly want I want to attempt with my little (and i mean little) reviews... create enough interest and let the people who read it make up their own minds for themselves, even with recorded "interviews" from members of the cast & crew and whose enthusiasm for the show could also help you get some extra bums on seats!
If you would like me to come along, please feel free to contact me. I'm even happy to come along to a dress and tech rehearsal before the show opens up, being a director and actor I understand that the show is still in the tinkering phase, but in all honesty that doesn't factor into my mind when I watch it. I'm there to be entertained.
